Spike Milligan - 'Pakistani' Daleks

This is Spike Milligan's sketch known as "Pakistani Daleks". A comment says

To show you how ludicrous political correctness has gotten, imagine the Dalek had a Welsh accent, you wouldn't find a single complaint about the sketch.
Actually you probably would receive one or two complaints, though in several magnitudes less.

The question I ask is, is this sketch racist or not? Is this morally wrong?

Surely there will still be complaints from the politically correct appeeaser jobsworths, at say, the BBC or the myriad of NuLabour positive discrimination "Respect Agenda / Communities/ Diversity" quangos, for fear of any theoretical risk of an insult to the Dalek race ?

I don't think it's racist at all. If this clip is from a 70's show, historically that was a time of political uprising in pakistan with some anti-british undertones ....
and the start of many Islamic extremists parties.

(I don't know how to hyper link :( )

another comment said this skit was about interracial couples .... but wether its focus was on society or politics its still funny!

I've said before every time I see some terrorist make a video demand all I can think is - pinky and the brain.

Morally wrong?
I'd say as long as there is a group of pakistanis (or any really) acting like "daleks" it acceptable to make fun- sometimes has a better outcome than war.
actually I think its a great annalogy!

I'm sure Madeline Bunting could be relied upon to deconstruct Dr Who's Dalek's as a right-wing symbolism for the racist concept of 'the other'....

Tu s Tin, for you, I have uploaded this picture which shows you how to hyperlink.

Last time I had somebody attempt to 'get back at me' and attempted to insult my family was by a bunch of raucous, angry Muslim lads at the Freedom of Expression march.

I'm not going to cats aspersions here on your background... Say what you like. Freedom of speech. Not likely to raise a laugh at the Appollo though is it?

I really cant see what all the fuss is about , a dalek isnt even a real person so how can it possibly be offended .

marvin said...

Well, anonymous, there are some within the Dalek community who would take issue with that.

Get real folks, what the hell is offensive about a Pakistani Dalek ?.
I'm black myself and think it is hilarious. I am sick and tired of watching every word I say in case some section of the community is offended. The word Police are everywhere!. Where were the sak]me people who complained when Bernard Manning was around ?, Honestly it's pathetic !.

The sad thing about all this is while huge public resources are being deployed by twits with clipboards from the vocab Gestapo bullies still treat people like **** because they know how to tick the boxes. But that's all right as long as you don't put gollies on jamjars!

Very funny. I can understand some pc minded types getting a bit uptight about it, but surely most great comedy involves some sort of derision. Perhaps I would go as far as say victim. Without a fall-guy there is no gag. As for the moaners, "PUT THEM IN THE CURRY".
