Or at least they're about to it seems by passing through Parliament legislation that will allow anonymous witnesses.
The Law Lords have ruled it's "unfair" that anonymous witnesses were used in a case of gun crime in London that was investigated by Operation Trident. They did not rule that, on balance, it would be incredibly unfair to victims of gangland crime and to potential witness. That would involve common sense.
People who have to live in the real world, such as the police, and, just about everyone else, feared that cases would collapse, such as this £6 million murder trial, and that future cases in involving witnesses scared for their lives or the lives of their families would not be brought to trial.
Well thank fuck for the government having some common sense.
