Could you *imagine* the same thing happening here?

Guardian readers seem to possess a unique talent for insularity combined with heavy side helping of  incredulity.

Take this. François Hollande has announced he will enact his pledge that "that in majority state-owned companies, the highest salary must not be 20 times more than the pay of the lowliest worker".

Let's cast our minds back to April 2010, here's David Cameron in the Guardian:

"We will ask the [fair pay] review to consider how to introduce a pay multiple so that no public sector worker can earn over 20 times more than the lowest-paid person in their organisation.
Could it be possible Hollande has taken tips from David Cameron? In the mind of Guardian reader such things are a self-evident impossibility. I mean, can you imagine?
